Ever have a Monday? Along the way folks have sent me these humorous reminders. You know it’s a Monday when, “every single electrical outlet in your kitchen fails to work. So you walk around your house, carrying the coffee maker like a desperate fiend, trying to find an outlet that will pity you.” You know it’s a Monday when, “You look out the window and see the van door open… and it’s been raining all night.” You know it’s a Monday when, “You dress as if the weather will be what it was over the weekend, only to have it be 30 degrees cooler.” You know it’s a Monday when, “You get your mail and find your water bill is 6x higher than normal...because you have a broken sprinkler line!” You know it’s a Monday when, “You have scheduled two appointments that morning at exactly the same time.” You know it’s a Monday when, “You wake up and it’s Tuesday!” Oh well tomorrow today is another day! This Monday met me with a bit of a chuckle this week let me tell ya. When I awake I usually ask the Lord to bless and keep me helping me to honor Him throughout the day before I ever get out of bed! Well it started that way once again. I then made the coffee for my sweet wife and sat down in my easy chair. I picked up my Blackberry and noticed that there was a text message waiting for me. Most of the time when I get a text it is important and I need to respond ASAP. So I dutifully looked at the message. “Y did U” was all it said. Now I got to admit that I am not good at text lingo whether it be sending or receiving a message but I quickly deciphered that someone was asking why I did something. There was no name attached to the message just a number that I did not know so I responded by saying “Why did I what? Who is this?” I got my first cup of Starbucks 3 Region Blend and sat back down only to find a response, “like u don’t know” Huh? Still no clue who this is or what I did. I sat perplexed as the next message arrived, “I hope ur happy”. Oh boy, now I not only don’t know who it is or what I’ve done, but the tone of the message told me if I was the culprit I was in deep trouble. I thought and sipped and thought and sipped then I responded, “still no clue who this is (I know I could say so much more in a text if I would just learn the lingo) I pray you have a blessed day. Pastor Tim”. Not long afterward I received a response that set my mind at ease and my face to laughing, “Sry wrong number”! Wow, I believe that I just had my first text argument! I still have no idea who it was that sent the messages but I will tell you I prayed for them, and for who ever it was that was in big trouble as well!
Whether it’s a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or whatever the day of the week, it’s good to be ready for we have no idea what a day holds. We should as Christ followers always be ready to share our faith. The apostle Peter wrote, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” Paul reminded us in his writings that we are to always be ready to serve, “So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.” Jesus admonished us in light of His return, “Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” Monday’s as someone once said are inevitable, in fact they will consume one seventh of your life! It’s not so much what happens to you but how you respond to it.
When a traveler in the early days of the west, came to the Mississippi, he discovered there was no bridge. Fortunately it was winter and the great river was sheeted over with ice. But the traveler was afraid to trust himself to it, not knowing how thick it was. Finally with infinite caution, he crept on his hands and knees and managed to get halfway over. And then he heard--yes he heard singing from behind. Cautiously he turned, and there, out of the dusk, came another traveler, driving a four-horse load of coal over the ice, singing as he went! I believe that we can approach Mondays, or life even like the fella crawling along fearful and frustrated about many things, or we can charge forward into the week and into life with great faith in a mighty God who will never leave us or forsake us! “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as Eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Don’t put off today a decision that will affect you forever. Today in the Word records a true story from the American Revolution, “During the Revolutionary War, a loyalist spy appeared at the headquarters of Hessian commander Colonel Johann Rall, carrying an urgent message. General George Washington and his Continental army had secretly crossed the Delaware River that morning and were advancing on Trenton, New Jersey where the Hessians were encamped. The spy was denied an audience with the commander and instead wrote his message on a piece of paper. A porter took the note to the Hessian colonel, but because Rall was involved in a poker game he stuffed the unread note into his pocket. When the guards at the Hessian camp began firing their muskets in a futile attempt to stop Washington's army, Rall was still playing cards. Without time to organize, the Hessian army was captured. The battle occurred the day after Christmas, 1776, giving the colonists a late present--their first major victory of the war.” Whether you are facing a Monday or just facing life, be ready. Now where’s that Blackberry?
